Our Dresden-based software development company is a new member of the Special Interest Group of SOAFEE: the project to develop a Scalable Open Architecture for Embedded Edge. Car manufacturers, semiconductor vendors, cloud technology companies, and open-source software development companies are working together in this community of interest.
The SOAFEE architecture seeks to re-use existing open standards for the components in its deployment framework for automotive workloads. Those standards will then be extended to meet the mixed-criticality requirements of automotive applications. The initial SOAFEE R1 that can be used to start enabling automotive DevOps using cloud-native fundamentals is available for download on Gitlab.
We will provide our expertise in design and development of operating systems and system architectures to the group. Our field-proven, open-source L4Re Hypervisor and the L4Re Operating System Framework provide a wide range of applications, from small micro-controllers to large servers.
A unified, scalable, cloud-native software architecture for mixed-critical automotive applications with a corresponding open-source reference implementation is the declared goal of SOAFEE. As a member of the SOAFEE Special Interest Group (SIG), we will work hard to establish a cloud-native development paradigm for efficient edge workloads.
We consider being a member in the SOAFEE network as an honor and a stepping stone to new application areas. Our L4Re Operating System Framework is excellently suited for real-time applications and virtualization in the automotive sector and is already being used here.
