Get to Know the L4Re Micro Hypervisor

The SDV vision is driving the E/E architectures towards more centralisation. Functionality that traditionally has been deployed to distinct ECUs, will be consolidated into a few, zonal controllers or central ECUs. As soon as safety critical functionality is deployed, it is vital to properly partition the software to uphold the required safety properties. A key technology enabling that is virtualization.

The open-source L4Re Micro Hypervisor for MPU-based systems securely separates real-time workloads, which makes it perfect for consolidated safety-critical systems, for instance in the automotive industry, avionics, or the smart home.

The L4Re Micro Hypervisor was launched in 2023, and by now it is included as reference hypervisor with NXP’s S32Z/E Vehicle Integration Platform. It supports the Cortex-R52 processor on a variety of other platforms too, as well as the recently launched Cortex-R82AE processor.

Get an insight into virtualization in general and the Armv8-R Cortex-R family support of the L4Re Micro Hypervisor in particular. We will discuss different use cases and possible deployment options. Finally, some cautious outlook where things are headed from an independent OS- and Hypervisor supplier is given.

This talk, held by our Senior Software Engineer Jan Klötzke and our CTO Dr.-Ing. Adam Lackorzynski, is intended for system architects and system software engineers that are interested in virtualization on real-time processors. Learn about the benefits of using a hypervisor for consolidated architectures. Benefit from a very personal learning environment and the opportunity to ask all the questions you have.

We are looking forward to seeing you on our screen!
